Preferred materials

At Global Funk we have a special group of materials that we love to work with. We call them our preferred materials.

They differ immensely, and we use them for different purposes. Some make killer jeans, others are best for overshirts and trackpants, and some are perfect for outerwear. But one thing they all have in common: they are all a better alternative to their conventional counterpart.

Read about our preferred materials below and learn how they made it to the list.

Natural fibres

Natural fibres derive from plants but have not been chemically processed or dissolved to be turned into a cellulose. They are great at absorbing moisture and are both soft and comfortable.

One of our most important product lines is our denim.

Read about how we work to create better denim products, through our membership of the Better Cotton initiative right here.

Synthetic fibers

Synthetic fibers are woven forms of plastic. Synthetic fibres dry quickly, are strong and versatile.

Preferred materials in this fibre group:

- Recycled Polyester
- Recycled Nylon

Recycled Polyester

Recycled polyester is made by shredding polyester scraps or used polyester products and melting them so they can be spun into a new thread.

Why we prefer recycled polyester:

By using existing material, recycled polyester limits the use of natural resources and cuts waste.

In addition, because the raw material used for making the virgin polyester has already been processed, the amount of chemicals used is also lower in the production of recycled polyester.

The but:

Synthetic fabrics are not biodegradable and can never return to nature. They release microplastics when washed. We therefore ask that you only wash your products when it is absolutely necessary and that you use a special washing bag.

Recycled Nylon is made by shredding nylon scraps or used nylon products and melting them so they can be spun into a new thread.

By using existing material, recycled nylon limits the use of natural resources and cuts waste.

Animal fibres

Animal fibres derive from well, animals. Because the types of animals vary greatly, so does the production method. Common for all animal fibres is that they often need special care, so as not to destroy their special properties. Animal fibres originate from sheep, cows, ducks, geese, goats and more.

Recycled down

Recycled down is made from collected old down products. The downs are extracted and washed and dried before it is used again to fill new puffer jackets or thermal wear.

Why we prefer recycled down:

By using existing material, recycled down limits the use of natural resources and cuts waste.
